Pakistan to Compete in 4 of 19 Disciplines at Indoor Asian Games

ISLAMABAD: A 29-strong contingent from Pakistan will participate in four of the 19 sports disciplines to feature during the 2nd Indoor Asian Games at Macau from October 26 to November 3 this year.

Pakistani competitors will vie for medals in athletics, chess, kabaddi and snooker.

Pakistan had captured a silver medal through the efforts of athlete Abdul Rasheed when Olympic Council of Asia first organised Indoor Asian Games at Bangkok (Thailand) from November 12-19, 2005.

A 19-member contingent represented Pakistan in the disciplines of athletics and swimming in the maiden edition of the event two years back.

The Games on view in the 2nd edition at Macau will be Aerobic Gymnastics, Bowling, Chess, Xiangqi, Cue Sports, Dance Sport, Dragon & Lion Dance, Electronic Sports (E-Sports), Extreme Sports and BMX Freestyle/Inline, Stunt/Skateboard, Extreme Sports and Sports Climbing, Fin swimming (25m), Futsal, Hoop Sepaktakraw, Indoor Athletics, Indoor Cycling, Indoor Hockey, Kabaddi, Muay and Short Course Swimming (25m).

The Pakistan contingent will consist of 21 players, three contingent officials and five team officials.

Syed Muhammad Abid Qadri will be the Chef-de-Mission while other contingent officials will be Syed Amir Hamza Gilani (Secretary-cum-Treasurer) and Dr. Pervaiz Rizvi (Team Doctor).

Mahmood Riaz will be the manager of the athletes’ squad. The athletes in the squad will be Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Sajjad.

The Pakistani chess players in action at Macau will be Tanvir Mohiuddin Gilani, Mehmood Ahmed Lodhi, Amer Karim and Muhammad Younus while Syed Aftab Hussain Gilani will be their Manager.

The following is the kabaddi squad:--Muhammad Irfan Gohar (Manager), Zubair Ahmed (Coach), Wajid Ali, Nasir Ali, Maqsood Ali, Muhammad Arshad, Adnan Afzal, Basharat Subhani, Rahat Maqsood, Waseem Sajjad, Naveed Akram, Ibrar Hussain, Sajjad Hussain and Muhammad Akram.

The snooker squad will comprise Alamgir A. Shaikh (Manager), Abu Saim, Agha Khurram Hussain and Naveen Kumar Perwani.
