Halal Food Test Event organized by MAIGOC

A Halal Food Test Event organized by MAIGOC took place at the Hotel Royal Macau yesterday (23 September), inviting media and MAIGOC staff to participate in the testing of more than 13 different specialties, with introduction of the food to the participants by Mr Cherma, Director of the supplying company. Operation check lists were also given out to the participants by MAIGOC, asking the opinion on the variety and quality of the food, the environment of the restaurant, and hygiene as references for the caterer. The company will be in charge of organizing and production of the Halal Food for immediate distribution to 14 venues during the Games.

Over 20 countries in Asia are resided with Islamic communities. Aside from pork which is prohibited in the Halal Food culture, it is nevertheless a delicacy with strong traditional background and unique specialty. The test event has provided the media and MAIGOC staff with an insight of the Islamic custom through the introduction, the participants opinions were also gathered for enhancement in the Halal Food catering service during the Games. In providing services tending to and respecting the different cultures and religions, MAIGOC looks forward that all Games participants will make Macao a home away from home.

Pakistan to Compete in 4 of 19 Disciplines at Indoor Asian Games

ISLAMABAD: A 29-strong contingent from Pakistan will participate in four of the 19 sports disciplines to feature during the 2nd Indoor Asian Games at Macau from October 26 to November 3 this year.

Pakistani competitors will vie for medals in athletics, chess, kabaddi and snooker.

Pakistan had captured a silver medal through the efforts of athlete Abdul Rasheed when Olympic Council of Asia first organised Indoor Asian Games at Bangkok (Thailand) from November 12-19, 2005.

A 19-member contingent represented Pakistan in the disciplines of athletics and swimming in the maiden edition of the event two years back.

The Games on view in the 2nd edition at Macau will be Aerobic Gymnastics, Bowling, Chess, Xiangqi, Cue Sports, Dance Sport, Dragon & Lion Dance, Electronic Sports (E-Sports), Extreme Sports and BMX Freestyle/Inline, Stunt/Skateboard, Extreme Sports and Sports Climbing, Fin swimming (25m), Futsal, Hoop Sepaktakraw, Indoor Athletics, Indoor Cycling, Indoor Hockey, Kabaddi, Muay and Short Course Swimming (25m).

The Pakistan contingent will consist of 21 players, three contingent officials and five team officials.

Syed Muhammad Abid Qadri will be the Chef-de-Mission while other contingent officials will be Syed Amir Hamza Gilani (Secretary-cum-Treasurer) and Dr. Pervaiz Rizvi (Team Doctor).

Mahmood Riaz will be the manager of the athletes’ squad. The athletes in the squad will be Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Sajjad.

The Pakistani chess players in action at Macau will be Tanvir Mohiuddin Gilani, Mehmood Ahmed Lodhi, Amer Karim and Muhammad Younus while Syed Aftab Hussain Gilani will be their Manager.

The following is the kabaddi squad:--Muhammad Irfan Gohar (Manager), Zubair Ahmed (Coach), Wajid Ali, Nasir Ali, Maqsood Ali, Muhammad Arshad, Adnan Afzal, Basharat Subhani, Rahat Maqsood, Waseem Sajjad, Naveed Akram, Ibrar Hussain, Sajjad Hussain and Muhammad Akram.

2nd Asian Indoor Games: PSB names 29-man contingent

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has finalised a 29-man contingent comprising 21 players and 8 officials for the 2nd Asian Indoor Games, scheduled to be held at Macao from October 26 to November 3.

A PSB spokesman told reporters on Monday that Pakistan would compete in four disciplines: athletics, chess, kabaddi and snooker. Syed Mohammad Abid Qadri would be the chef-de-mission of the contingent. “The training camp for the players is in progress at the Pakistan Sports Complex,” he said.

Iran U23 in Thailand for friendly matches practice

FutsalPlanet.com - THAILAND, Asian champion Iran has arrived in Bangkok, Thailand for a two match friendlies tour series. The mentioned matches are part of the preparation for the Asian Indoor Games in Macau for both teams and also a timely rehearsal for Thailand who are due in Madrid for a two-week training series in October whilst they prepare for their long term ambitions of the World Cup Qualifiers in Bangkok next year. Arriving on Friday, the Iranians have come with a squad (the Under 23 selection) that is being billed as a collection of potentially the best talent in the country and definitely pointing towards the future.

Coached by Brazilian Jurandir Azevedo, the team played the first match against the ever-improving Thais on Saturday which ended 2-2 in a hard fought match.

Playing infront of 3,000 fans at the Fashion Island Mall, Thailand, still reeling from the abrupt passing of their coach Glaucio Castro, stuck to the education provided by the former Brazilian international’s lessons through stand-in coach Pattaya Piemkum in being disciplined in defence and quick in attack.

Blooding several new talents as well in the squad, Thailand scored first through captain Panuwat Janta in the 12th minute. Hassan Donyai then replied in the 22nd minute to make it 1-1 to go in at the break.

A breathtaking first period indeed which had the fans glued to the seats and definitely wanting more of the same in the second period.

The second half began where it was all left off as Thailand attacked relentlessly, with quick passing and fleet-footwork, aided by the promptings of the dynamic Janta and the intelligent Sermphan ‘Big Joe’ Khumthinkaew and Iran countered with their own repertoire of play like an impressive orchestra conducted by Mohamad Kesahvaz and Mohamad Taheri.

With end to end action, a goal was bound to come and it was the host who added to the tally again in impressive fashion. A quick neat through ball to Prasert Innui saw the attacker dragging the ball away from his marker for an explosive left-footed finish past Mostafa Nazany.

The lead lasted all of three minutes as Mohamad Taheri took advantage of a lapse in the Thai defence to make it 2-2.

As the minutes ticked away, the score stood the same although the Thais could have won it bit for Prasert to blast high when well positioned.

Vietnam to send 138 athletes to second Asian Indoor Games

Vietnam will send 138 athletes to the second Asian Indoor Games in Macao from October 26 to November 3, reported Ho Chi Minh City Sports newspaper. The newspaper said that the Vietnam Olympic Committee has submitted a list of 138 athletes, alongside 38 coaches and 22 officials, who will compete in Macao, to the Games organising board. The list has also been submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for approval. Accordingly, the athletes will compete in 12 sports, including track and field, swimming, diving, aerobics, dance sports, chess, Chinese chess, futsal, billiards and snooker, sepak takraw, lion and dragon dance, and bowling. Vietnamese lion dancing expected to win medals at Asian Indoor Games

Vietnamese athletes will compete in 11 events at the 2nd Asian Indoor Games in Macau from October 25 to November 3.

The events include track and field, swimming, diving, football, sports dancing, rattan ball, billiards, bowling, chess, aerobics and lion dancing.

Vietnam is expected to send 290 athletes to compete against others from 43 countries and territories in the region.

In particular, Nhon Nghia Duong, a Vietnamese lion dancing troupe from Ho Chi Minh City, will compete with rivals from China, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.

To make lion dancing become an event at the 2nd Asian Indoor Games, the Asian Unicorn, Lion and Dragon Federation was founded in July 2007 with 8 members. Then, the federation issued rules and provided training courses for referees in terms of lion dancing.

Four Vietnamese referees finished their courses in late July and will take part in the forthcoming event.

Vietnam has a chance to win medals, said Luu Hoan Phi, coach of the Vietnamese lion dancing delegation. Mr. Phi, also director of the Nhon Nghia Duong, and his troupe have performed in many foreign countries.

He predicted that the Chinese team with their tradition would win gold medals in unicorn dancing, meanwhile, Vietnam, Thailand, Macau and Malaysia would contend for the gold in the lion dancing event.

Over the past month, 22 members of the Vietnamese team have rehearsed for at least 3 hours a day in Binh Tan district, Ho Chi Minh City. Despite being busy with shows during the season, all these athletes will try their best to win medals at the contest.

Vuong Vi Nguyen, 22 years old and one of the best athletes, said that the team would overcome all difficulties to lift the trophy.

The Olympic Council of Asia selected Vietnam to hold the 3rd Indoor Games in Vietnam in 2009. To prepare for the event, the Vietnam Sports Committee, Hanoi People’s Committee and Hanoi’s Sports Department plan to build a sports complex in My Dinh commune, Tu Liem district at a cost of 200 billion VND.

Earlier, Vietnam's track and field athletes won five gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze at the pre-Asian Indoor Games in Macau.

At the 1st Indoor Asian Games, Vietnam ranked 21st with one silver and one bronze medal.

CDM’s VISIT TO TEAMS PREPARING FOR 2ND ASIAN INDOOR GAMES

Dato Roy Rajasingham, Chef de Mission for the 2nd Macau Asian Games, and Vice-President of OCM, have started to visit teams that will be competing in the 2nd Macau Asian Indoor Games. The 2nd Asian Indoor Games will be held in Macau from 26th October 2007 till 3rd November 2007.

He visited the Northern Lion Dance team on Saturday 1st September 2007 during their performance at the 86th Annual Anniversary of the Kuala Lumpur Chinwoo Association. The Northern Lion Dance team will be competing together with the Southern Lion team and also Dragon Dance team in the coming Games.

Other than Dragon and Lion Dance, Malaysia will also be competing in Bowling, Chess, Xiangqi, DanceSport, Extreme Sports (BMX and Sports Climbing), Futsal, Indoor Cycling, Indoor Hockey and Kabaddi.

The other sports that Malaysia are not competing are Aerobic Gymnastic, Cue Sports, Electronic Sports, Finswimming, Hoop Sepaktakraw, Indoor Athletics, Muay and Short Course Swimming.

As for the demonstration sports Malaysia will be taking part in only 3on3 Basketball and not in Kickboxing and Kurash.

Malaysia is expected to send a contingent of 185 athletes and official, out of which are 135 athletes and 50 officials

In the 1st Asian Indoor Games in 2005, Malaysia took part in DanceSports and Extreme Sports (BMX and Sports Climbing), with 34 athletes and officials. Malaysia won 1 gold through Ahmad Fadzil Musa in Extreme Sports (Skateboard Park) and a bronze through Ahmad Shaiful Aziz also in Extreme Sports (BMX Bicycle Stunt Flatland)

Vietnam’s unicorn dancers expect medals at Asian Indoor Games

Unicorn and lion dancing will be the events at the upcoming 2nd Asian Indoor Games in Macau from October 25 to November 3 with the participation of eight countries and territories, including Vietnam. At this event, Vietnam will participate in track-and-field, swimming, diving, football, sport dance, sepak takraw, billiards, bowling, chess and Chinese chess, aerobics, lion and unicorn dancing. HCM City’s Nhon Nghia Duong unicorn-lion-dragon dance troupe will represent Vietnam at the Asian Indoor Games and will compete against troupes from China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau. To turn unicorn and lion dancing into sports at the Asian Indoor Games, the Asian Unicorn-Lion-Dragon Dance Federation was established in Asia with eight member countries and territories. The federation set down rules and trained a team of referees, including four from Vietnam, namely Luu Kiem Xuong, Luu Dang Phi, Luu Xuong Ky and Luy Ky Xuong. Those referees will participate in the 2nd Asian Indoor Games. “Vietnam will possibly win medals in these events,” said coach Luu Hoan Phi of Nhon Nghia Duong troupe, who has led the troupe to many countries for performances. Mr. Phi said that Vietnam’s unicorn and lion dance techniques were not behind others in the region. With its long tradition of unicorn dancing, China may win the gold medal in the unicorn dancing while Vietnam, Thailand, Macau and Malaysia will compete for the gold medal in lion dancing.
